A mid-century bungalow gets a fabulous makeover in Marin County

midcentury-landscape

A mid-century bungalow built in 1958 was completely revitalized by BK Interior Design, located in Marin County, California. When the homeowners originally purchased this home, it was found in ruin, but they thought it was the perfect project for the couple to work on. The project team only updated what was needed, revitalizing several of the home’s mid-century elements. A labor of love, this dwelling is the perfect blend of mid-century architecture and furniture selections with contemporary art.

Above: Guests can either enter into the home through the backyard gates or turn right and travel down a paved pathway to the front entry. This garden feature displays a variety of plants from all over the world.

Above: This outdoor living space is idyllic for entertaining guests. The original home did not have a deck. Instead there were stone slabs that were not very ideal. The design team added the deck and created the perfect entertaining area. Several large pine trees were removed from the property, which enhanced sun exposure. This created a need for sun shading. PJ Canvas in Santa Rosa, California was responsible for the custom fabricated awning, which is set underneath the roof of the house during rainy months.

Above: The backyard originally featured all concrete slabs with no landscaping. The project team described it as a “toe-stubbing minefield.” They removed all of the cracked slabs and re-arranged the ones that were in good condition to create lounging and dining areas. They then added grass to create a stunning outdoor oasis.
