Inviting and cozy farmhouse style cottage on Minnesota’s Cross Lake

This warm and inviting farmhouse style cottage was created by design-build firm Lands End Development along with BeDe Design, located on Cross Lake, in Crosslake, Minnesota. Encompassing 3,500 square feet of living space with a total of five bedrooms and five bathrooms, this is the home of Michelle Fries of BeDe Design, who lives here with her husband, two children and two dogs! This home also includes a small attached guest cottage with one bedroom along with a boathouse. Three of the bedrooms are located upstairs, while the kitchen, dining area and living room are on the main floor with a screened-in porch.

The kitchen cabinets are painted in Silvery Blue 1647 | Benjamin Moore. The perimeter countertops are Carrara marble, complimented by a butcher-block countertop island, mixing rustic with elegant. Additional highlights includes a red Bertazzoni range, fireclay apron front sink from Rohl, a bridge faucet from Danze and pendant lights sourced from Quoizel. Bamboo Roman shades in the window adds texture to the space.

Above: A custom stained wood ceiling also features rough-sawn beams. The floors are wide-plank reclaimed pine.

What We Love: This farmhouse style cottage offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that begins with the outdoor fish gate, which really sets the tone for the unique home. This special place is perfect for family gatherings, with cozy guest bedrooms and a wonderful wrap-around porch to enjoy throughout the summer. Above: The maintain the views of the lake in the living room, the designer dressed the windows with heavy-linen Roman shades. The board and batten walls are painted in Simply White OC-117 | Benjamin Moore, which was thinned out to give it a white-washed aesthetic.

Above: Cozy nooks can be found throughout this home, including this built-in bench seat next to the fireplace. Underneath the seat is hidden storage for audio-visual equipment. Throughout the seasons, the designer creates different looks by switching out the blankets and pillows.

Above: A guest bedroom on the lower level features nickel-spaced butt boards on the walls and stained pine boards on the ceiling. The Jenny Lind bed is from Crate & Barrel, complimented by an antique blanket. The colorful accent pillows were sourced from Anthropologie.

Above: The screened-in porch provides a light-filled, breezy spot for enjoying meals. Sunbrella window treatments helps to provide shelter from the elements when needed.

Above: The original boathouse on the property was neglected, so the designer had it rebuilt. The style matches to that of the farmhouse with a few twists. White lap siding is complimented by a red metal roof, which flows with the shades on the porch.

Above: Inside, the boathouse offers a sauna, changing room and a storage room for water toys. The interior materials consists of a mix of leftover barn wood from other projects.

Above: The entry gate features a giant corrugated metal fish, commissioned by local artist Tim Kulseth. The latch features a giant fish hook. Guests will be charmed upon arrival to this lakeside vacation retreat, fun memories will be created beyond this gate!
