Mountain contemporary home inspired by the rugged Colorado landscape

Mountain Contemporary Home-RKD Architects-01-1 Kindesign

This mountain contemporary home entitled “Puesta Del Sol” was designed by RKD Architects, located on a plateau above the valley basin of Vail, Colorado. This home’s design takes its cues from the surrounding rugged landscape. Native sandstone was used for the stone monoliths which are visible both from the interior and the exterior. Geometric forms reflect the undulations of the surrounding mountains.

This home was completely renovated, beginning with the guest bedrooms and family room back in 2002. Then, twelve years later, a much larger addition included a master bedroom suite, an office and an open plan living, kitchen and dining area. The addition was completed in late 2013.

What We Love: From the magnificent mix of stone and wood to the stylish furnishings and expansive windows framing the views, this home is architecturally stunning. The lighting throughout the interiors helps to further enhance the design, evoking different moods from space to space. Soaring ceilings makes the home feeling bright and airy, a perfect touch to this renovation project… Readers, what do you think of the renovation, is there any details that you would have liked to have seen done differently or is it just perfect? Let us know in the comments!
