This farmhouse style home was designed for a family of six by interiors studio M. Barnes & Co., located in rural Athens, a city in Henderson County, Texas. The 4,500 square foot, four bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom residence serves as a second home for an active family who loves spending time outdoors.
This spacious home features wonderful outdoor living spaces, which also includes a pool house. The furnishings, finishes, and color palette combine to bring the outdoors in. Sturdy pine furniture and slipcovered upholstery helps to create an informal, comfortable atmosphere that can stand up to the wear and tear of an active family.
Accolades: This beautiful farmhouse was awarded the “Legacy of Design Award Winner” in 2014.
Floors of wide planked pine, salvaged brick, and stained concrete add texture and a rustic, indoor-outdoor sensibility. Soaring ceilings and lots of windows create an open, barn-like feel in the great room. Wood planking clads the ceiling in the great room and is repeated on accent walls in other rooms throughout the home. The pale blue and green colors reflect the big Texas sky and rolling grasslands of the prairie that can be seen from every window.
What We Love: This charming modern farmhouse is a true getaway where the homeowners enjoy casual family time in beautiful surroundings. Throughout the interiors, is a soothing color palette, lovely furnishings and fun pieces of art and antique collections. The reclaimed pine floors of the great room adds a cozy warmth, contrasting beautifully with the open truss ceiling. The serene bedrooms are so wonderful, we think the guests would never want to leave this amazing retreat!
