This modern desert home was designed by Schmidt Architecture in collaboration with The Wiseman Group, located in Palm Springs, California. The client is a former triathlete and an entrepreneur, owner of Jamba Juice. His dream was to own a lap pool on his property, which is exactly what he sought out to do. The home was constructed on part of the old Jack Warner estate in Old Las Palmas. The property came up for sale, he kept a parcel for himself and sold off the rest. The homeowner acted as his own general contractor, hiring the perfect team to build his modern pad.
With a rectangular lot, the primary goal was to build a 25 meter lap pool that the client had always wished for. Sleek lines and organic materials speak to their desert surroundings. While a material palette of weathered Cor-Ten steel, stone, wood, concrete and aluminum trim mix and mingle. Wood clad on the ceilings adds warmth. Rooms throughout this modern desert home, even the showers, have a natural light source.
Furnishings were custom designed predominately by The Wiseman Group. They were made to be modern yet comfortable, this includes suede headboard-walls with cantilevered bedside tables. The result of this project is elegantly designed spaces with desert inspired-hues, eye-catching art, and beautiful landscaping. They all reflect the natural beauty of the surrounding desert.

The homeowner’s favorite decor is featured here in the entryway, making a bold reference to his husband’s native Brazil. It is an expansive photographic mural the designers had commissioned of the beach in Ipanema. This is where the two originally met and fell in love 11 years ago.

Floor-to-ceiling windows creates seamless indoor-outdoor connection. In keeping with the desert palette, most of the home was furnished with pieces created by the designers. Chartreuse seems to pop up in almost every room in the house, a hue inspired by the desert green landscape.
Two mid-century Brazilian chairs in the living room tells a story about Brazil during the 40s and 50s. They fit so perfectly in the space, adding to the design aesthetic.
