This impressive modern home of concrete and glass is positioned high above the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, California, designed by the talented architects of McClean Design. All of the main living spaces in this home were designed to maximize the sweeping views of the cityscape and the Pacific Ocean, including the ruggedly beautiful Catalina Island. With a sumptuous 7,000 square feet of living space, the home is separated by a water feature and a swimming pool. When the clients contracted the architects to design their project, they requested to have a long swimming pool as the central focal point of the structure. The architects describe this feature as a “a water wall around which the entry sequence is wrapped.” The water element ascends to the main level to become an ornamental pool, then drops into the spa below. It then turns into a seventy-five foot long lap pool, where the end cantilevers out over the slope, extending into the view.
Entrance into this modern pad is accessed via a glass bridge that crosses over the swimming pool below. The main living spaces are situated on one side of the pool, while the master bedroom retreat and home office are on the other. On the lower level there are several guest bedrooms, a media room as well as a spacious garage to park four cars. An impressive design feature is the cantilevering of both the living room and master bedroom, hovering over the outdoor living spaces as well as the city below. The interior design scheme features a soft, contemporary palette that feels relaxed and inviting. Material elements reflect the extensive use of concrete, wood and stone throughout the structure.

What We Love: The elements of fire and water work really well in this modern home. The dramatic cantilever of the swimming pool from the perspective of the image is spectacular, like it drops off to the city below. The extensive use of glass really helps to capture the magnificent Los Angeles skyline, which is even more radiant when the sun sets… the perfect home on the Sunset Strip, don’t you think?
The interior design of this impressive residence was carried out by Los Angeles-based interiors studio Brown Design Group.
