Amazing concrete pad immersed in Australian rainforest setting

Modern Concrete House-Jesse Bennett-01-1 Kindesign

Set in a tropical rainforest setting in Queensland, Australia, the owner and designer of this project, architect Jesse Bennett along with his wife, interior designer Anne-Marie Campagnolo created an inspiring home that aims to enhance daily living. This elevated concrete pad is comprised of 3,013 square feet (280 square meters) of living space spread out over two levels. The home was built from ground up, designed on a sloping site which presented some challenges. The design duo were involved in all aspects of the project, which proved cumbersome, but then they were able to control aspects of the outcome, which was a complete success.

Modern material elements of concrete and glass were employed on the exterior and interior of the structure, while a soft layering of textures and use of color help to inject warmth and personality into the space. There is a carefully balanced mix of custom designed furnishings and vintage pieces, along with colorful art selections to create a playful atmosphere. Extensive glazing with minimal walls helps to maximize the views of the surrounding tropical landscape. With this great indoor-outdoor connection, it really helps the home to integrate into its landscape, embracing natural ventilation and passive design principles.

A large flat roof with a generous overhang acts as a rainforest canopy, sheltering the home from the elements. The garage is located below the home, with a staircase that takes you up to the second level and entryway into the front door. The designers created some of their own furniture pieces to increase functionality and to create clean aesthetics. Have a look at another great example of a home that fits well into its tropical rainforested setting, Casas Amazonian jungle house.

What We Love: Not only is the tropical setting beyond spectacular, this home is one of our favorites featured here on 1 Kindesign and it is been a pleasure sharing it with all of you! We love the way the home is integrated into its environment and maximizes the indoor-outdoor connection perfectly. The homeowners are a very talented duo and they are very lucky to be living in such a fun and visually stimulating home, both indoors and out! What are your thoughts, would you move to Queensland to reside in this pad?

Creating a cozy conversation pit, the curved sofa topped with pink cushions and pillows (picture above) were custom crafted by the designers to fit the space. The shape allows the homeowners to enjoy varying views through the windows and to relax and enjoy watching television on their custom creation!

there is NOTHING about this house that i love, or even like. i don’t mean to sound gay, or anything, but the extensive use of concrete is a turnoff. floor to ceiling windows throughout for a residence is also a “miss” as far as i’m concerned.
