Nestled on Mercer Island, Washington, this striking modern residence was designed as a collaborative effort between Hoshide Wanzer Architects and NB Design Group. Cascading down a gentle slope toward Lake Washington’s edge, a new 3,600-square-foot home emerges atop an existing foundation.

Guiding the entryway and bridging the gap to the parking area, a series of steel and wood trellises establish a welcoming pathway. The roof, mirroring the site’s natural incline, adopts a ‘butterfly’ profile that gracefully follows and then rises with the land, culminating at the water’s edge.

What We Love: This Mercer Island home features clean lines and a warm material palette. An inviting exterior facade is perched on the edge of Lake Washington to capture tranquil views of the water from expansive walls of glazing. We are especially loving the living room with its striking fireplace design and comfortable sectional sofa to relax and enjoy the waterside vistas. Overall, the project team did a fabulous job of creating an attractive lake house for its inhabitants.
