An old barn in an idyllic meadow was transformed into a beautiful country home brimming with character, located in the small town of Comillas in the Cantabria region, on Spain’s north coast. The home was designed by architect Anton Davila of the studio Ruiseñada Arquitectura, with construction by Lope Nogalera. Upon entrance into the interior, you will notice a bright atmosphere with elegance, sophistication and attention to detail, especially in the splendid dining room. The ground floor is virtually transparent, which enhances the brightness and also promotes family life. Materials, finishes and fabrics are reminiscent of an English cottage, with beautiful carpentry and wide oak wood flooring. Any corner of the home is perfect for shelter during the cool winter months, but the best spot is by the fireplace, designed by the architects. They have a fantastic system of geothermal energy for heating and hot water installed by Girod Geotermia. With the help of interior designer Mónica Jenssen, the homeowners received a fabulous decoration of beautiful upholstered pieces. A nice mix of antique furnishings and modern designs were combined with exciting small details such as sheepskins and castings of horns, a nob to the Nordic and North American styles.
In the living room, the fireplace is clad with masonry stones found in the old barn. Above the mantel is the head of a bison purchased in Jackson Hole, Wyowing. Soaring ceilings and expansive windows helps to not only make the home bright and airy but create a feeling of spaciousness. The finished result is a Scandinavian air with serene color and clean designs.
