Whitewashed stone walls and wood beams are characteristic of this 400 year old cave-like home in Ibiza, one of the Balearic islands in the Mediterranean Sea.ย Two New Yorkers call this place home, where they happily liveย off the beaten path, surrounded by almond trees, cactus and olive trees. The interior was barely touched since the building is historically protected. The only changes the new homeowners made was installing a newย kitchen by adding modern amenitiesย and scraping the stone walls. They kept the beautiful ceilings that are supported by seaweed twisted juniper beams. The owners wanted bare space, exposing a simplistic aesthetic. The main house encompasses a kitchen, living room, bathroom and three bedrooms, there are also two guest houses on the property. The home is wide but not showy, and although the home is historical, it has a nice contemporary energy. The decor took time and careful planning, the homeowners wanted to bring personality and a sense of place to the cottage. They opted for traditional Ibizan decor, mixing urban sophistication with rustic and ethnic elements. The result is a purist yet authentically styled home, capturing the essence of the home’s past while infusing it with present day sophistication. We loveย this home it is super cozy and very serene, a great place to enjoy a long and relaxing vacation! What do you think?
