This sprawling country house mixes classicism and modernity, recently restored by interior designer Greg Natale, located in Geelong, a port city in Victoria, Australia. This bluestone homestead was built in 1880 on property where horses were everything, which can be seen as a theme traveling throughout the interiors of the spacious five bedroom home. The rooms feature many styles, recovered furnishings, heirlooms and beautiful wallpapers. The client wished to give the residence new life, without taking away the character and personality of its heritage. The interior decoration features a sophisticated mixture of rustic elements with more glamorous pieces. Decorating such a large home was a challenge that the designer took on eagerly, using furnishings to delineate spaces, such as double living rooms and a reading nook. Area rugs decorating the floors throughout the home are the design of Greg Natale for the company ‘Designer Rugs’. The biggest challenge the designer faced was creating comfortable spaces in such a large home, so he used sizable furnishings that created a pleasing aesthetic, one that is chic and modern with touches of rustic and industrial. Vibrant colors, contrast in graphic detailing, geometric patterns and a variety of textures were the constants, while some areas of the home saw bold and colorful design schemes, and other more serious and conservative.
The finished result is a home that shows varying styles that seems to effortlessly flow together to create a visually pleasing aesthetic. What do you think, does this home have too much going on or do you find it perfectly coiffed? Let us know in the comments section below!
