Perched on a rocky knoll overlooking the vast expanse of Jervis Inlet, this off-grid retreat was reimagined by W O V E N Architecture and Design for its inhabitants, who were seeking a quiet escape from the intensity of urban life and a demanding career.
The 967-square-foot cabin is nestled in Egmont, a small waterfront village on Secret Bay in Sechelt Inlet on the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia, Canada.
What began as a small, weathered cabin has gradually transformed into a self-sufficient sanctuary deeply connected to its coastal landscape. Beautifully renovated and expanded, the retreat now balances modern comfort with a strong sense of place. Scroll down to explore the stunning transformation of this off-grid coastal retreat…

A hand-carved totem pole stands opposite the entry, grounding the site in the owner’s cultural heritage and anchoring the arrival experience. Inside, a dark, natural palette and finely detailed interiors create a calm, de-stimulating atmosphere suited to rest, reflection, and connection.

This compact retreat can be reached by a secluded logging road and feels immediately removed from daily routines. At its centre is the original cabin, thoughtfully renovated and paired with a new addition that reconfigures the existing spaces to create a dedicated kitchen, dining, living, and bedroom areas. The design preserves the modest character of the existing structure while elevating comfort, functionality, and craft.

A series of fabulous outdoor spaces extends the living experience: a fire pit, pizza oven, dining terrace, and a spacious deck with an outdoor kitchen, all with views of Jervis Inlet.

Additional elements on this property, including small sleeping cabins, a utility building, a dock, and a boat ramp, support a resort-like yet low-impact lifestyle.

Designed to operate fully off-grid, the retreat is powered by a solar energy system, heated by a wood-burning fireplace, and supported by well water and a septic system. The result is a place where the comforts of home blend seamlessly with nature.
