A modest 1980s home was reimagined by architect Michael Stolle, in collaboration with Blair Burton Interiors, into a warm, layered Mediterranean-modern hacienda nestled in the hills of the Texas Hill Country in Kerrville, Texas. This dwelling serves as a weekend getaway for a couple and their son, situated just two hours outside of Austin.
Tucked along the edge of a quiet pond, this peaceful refuge offers 3,000 square feet of living space. Damage from an ice storm necessitated the home being stripped down to the studs and completely transformed. The designer layered natural materials, soft architectural details, collected furnishings, and quiet luxury throughout the home to create spaces that feel grounded, personal, and deeply livable.

The goal of this project was to improve flow throughout the home and create an indoor-outdoor connection by adding a screened-in porch. The design leaned into Mediterranean-style architecture, beginning with a reclaimed Ludowici terracotta clay tile roof. On the interior, the designer selected plaster walls, custom white oak cabinets, along with white oak ceiling beams and wall paneling. Additionally, they integrated arches and soft curves throughout, creating visual harmony.

The home was thoughtfully reimagined to bridge rustic simplicity and sophistication.

The designer chose timeless finishes that are durable and elevated to meet the owners’ needs for a dog- and kid-friendly home.

What We Love About This Home
The transformation of this ranch into a Mediterranean-modern hacienda is nothing short of spectacular. Every detail, from the terracotta roof to the plaster arches and white oak paneling, feels beautifully timeless. We love the way the designer layered collected art, vintage rugs, and natural textures to create spaces that feel personal and deeply lived-in. Whether it’s soaking in the freestanding tub with views of the private courtyard, gathering around the pond-side fire pit, or waking up to Hill Country views from the owner’s bedroom, this is the kind of retreat that would make it very hard to go back to city life.
