This gorgeous lakefront home, designed by Frances Zook Architect, features contemporary and rustic influences and is nestled on a sprawling property surrounded by forest on Lake Burton in Georgia. The owners had spent family vacations here for years, but these newly empty-nesters were looking to begin a new chapter in their lives. They tore down the original house to build a new retreat for gathering with family and friends.
Highlights of the exterior facade of this home include exposed stone walls and dark siding paired with a cedar shake roof. The support columns of the front porch were custom-fabricated from locally sourced locust trees. The steel-framed entry door frames a picturesque view of the lake, visible straight through the living room windows. The aesthetic goal of this home was to make it appear as an old house with modern additions.

What We Love About This Home
The balance between rustic and contemporary in this Georgia lakefront home is exquisite. The rough-hewn stone walls and reclaimed wood beams sit effortlessly alongside sleek steel-framed windows and minimalist white plaster surfaces. The way the home is oriented to the lake is breathtaking, with bifold glass doors that dissolve the boundary between the living room and the water beyond. The thoughtful use of locally sourced materials throughout, from the locust tree porch columns to the white oak kitchen cabinetry, gives the home an authenticity that feels rooted in its Georgia lakeside setting.
