This rustic lake house was designed as a relaxing family retreat by Zero-Ten-Design, situated along Indian Point at Pleasant Lake in New London, New Hampshire. Five generations of the homeowner’s family have been raised to enjoy, respect, and appreciate the region’s natural beauty, which attracted them to build on this property.
The architects were commissioned to replace a modest cottage on the property with a comfortable lakefront getaway to be enjoyed by future generations that not only preserves the fabulous views of the lake but also respects the unique ecosystem around the point. To fulfill the needs of a large family with frequent guests, this new home base is broken up into three separate structures — a main house, a boathouse, and a detached garage.
The main house encompasses 7,640 square feet and provides the primary living quarters and dining space for the family and their guests. The boathouse accommodates various watercraft storage during the winter, but opens up in the summer as a game room and brewing deck, along with an upstairs bunk room to accommodate family and friends that visit during the summer.

Note: Be sure to check out a couple of other amazing home tours that we have showcased here on One Kindesign in the state of New Hampshire: A woodland cabin retreat with peaceful lakefront views in New Hampshire and A lakeside camp-like home provides a woodland escape in New Hampshire.
The detached garage just off the main road is tucked out of sight into the backdrop of a lush green wetland. The careful placement of the structures allows a glimpse of the lake for walkers passing by the main road. As you come down the driveway approach, the structures and lake view will gradually expand out to celebrate the dramatic 180-degree view of the pine grove and shoreline that are unique to the point.
Great care was taken to make the structures’ appearances from the lake remain true to the quaint New England lakeside architecture, with the exterior finishes seamlessly blending into the natural terrain.
