Lindye Galloway Design in collaboration with Rj Smith Construction has reimagined this calming coastal home just off the coast of Manhattan Beach, California. The design team wanted to integrate elevated essentials throughout to give a slight twist while still embracing a coastal statement design. This enabled the family to have a calming retreat for rest and relaxation.
Stepping into the living room of this stunning home, you will find a melange of textures, layers, and tones that gives this space a curated yet comfortable aesthetic. Highlights of this space include the warm white oak finishes and the exquisite plastered fireplace. A slanted ceiling is complimented by an oversized chandelier. Throughout the rest of this home, you will find custom-designed pieces by the interior designer.
This open and airy kitchen is perfect for cooking and hosting and offers an abundance of storage. The custom cabinetry is white oak throughout, including the reeded hood. The island countertop is Calcatta marble in a glossy finish with a 2 MM thickness. The backsplash is a custom zellige mosaic tile.

In the family room, a gray L-shaped sofa and a white marble (Calacatta Glossy 12MM) fireplace bench provide plenty of seating for family and friends to gather. The walls in this space are a raked plaster. The custom-designed white oak base cabinets can be opened with a simple touch.

The original home had an outdated curved staircase that the homeowners wished to completely reconfigure. Instead, the designer opted to create this dramatic, modern interpretation that preserved the original architecture. Crafted from plaster, this beautiful curved staircase features white oak paneling, a top-mountain handrail, and a built-in bench.
The main bedroom features a stunning ceiling treatment of slanted beams and a tongue and groove inset painted in Muslin Paint Color DE6227 – Dunn-Edwards. The bed is custom designed from white oak and can be found in the designer’s shop, the “Ridley Bed”.
The bedroom features large windows and an abundance of natural light, providing the ultimate haven of relaxation.
The girl’s bedroom features a playful loft bed that comes complete with a custom ladder. This space has a French mattress cushion that was tufted using performance velvet. Tons of throw pillows make this space warm and inviting — the perfect spot for reading or hanging out with friends.
Above: The girls’ bedroom features a half-moon linen-blend headboard. Despite the pop of color, this room still manages to be neutral. The designer introduced colorful accents and striking features to allow the look to evolve as she grows. She also added a swing for those study or reading moments.
