This light-filled dream house is the epitome of California cool style

Amber Interiors worked in collaboration with Think Martin Construction Company to redesign this beautiful home in Runyon Canyon, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. This was originally the dream house of the designer, who spotted this beauty while real estate stalking. Her dreams were crushed when the home came off the market, although logistically, this home was not practical for her family’s current lifestyle (work, school changes, etc.) — not to mention she was in the process of remodeling her own home! The designer had completely visioned the remodel of this dream home in her head, many times over.

So, luckily for the new homeowners, they coincidentally contacted her to help them with the remodel just a short time after their purchase! This home ended up with a major makeover, everything from changing the layout of several rooms to replacing ceilings, floors and installing new windows and doors. New tiles were installed in the bathrooms, including plenty of marble, fresh paint, you name it, they did it! This place needed lots of love and it was infused with plenty of it.

The family who purchased this canyon home are East Coast transplants. It was important for the designer to give their home a quintessential “Cali vibe”, yet keep a nod to the modern feel that they were used to. They wished for their home to be cozy, with a layering of textures and not a lot of clutter. They also desired to rid themselves of the modern, all-white New York apartment that they had previously resided in. The finished result offers an inviting, laid-back abode, boasting a mix of modern, moody, yet traditional all at the same time.

To create a nice flow to the outdoors, windows flanking the fireplace were transformed into doors. The vision was to be able to open the doors on an idyllic Los Angeles evening, while watching the flickering of flames from the fireplace.

What We Love: This stunning dream house showcases an exquisite contrast of light and dark throughout. With the new configuration of windows and doors, the designer was able to capture the views of the canyon while helping to flood the interiors with natural light. This home’s newly revived living spaces offer a relaxed vibe that is quintessential California living for some East Coast transplants. Overall, this renovation project is simply gorgeous… what do you think? Do find find the remodel of this home to be a success (refer to the before pictures at the end of this home tour). I would also like to know – they look like they are about 8ft…

absolutely stunning. Did you find that the paint color Milk Glass by Dunn Edwards counter balanced the green reflection from the natural outdoor light? Looks good in the photos. I am trying to find the perfect white that doesn’t show that green cast from the outdoors. Maybe the warm undertone in Milk Glass does the trick?

I love the remodel. Particularly like the dark dining room next to the light kitchen, accented with the modern chandelier. Where can I find this fixture?

overall this is a really nice remodel. that said, i question whether the “before” photos have been manipulated. for example, why is the living room so much darker in the “before” photos when they have about the same amount of glass as the “after” photos? i like the idea of removing the paneling in the living room, but i never have liked the idea of having your ceiling look like your floor. but i don’t think that the beams that were added to the ceiling really add anything. marble for the shower walls??? talk about a “high maintenance” choice!

I agree. Nice remodel, but totally edited in favor of making it look much better. All of the recessed lighting disappeared in the kitchen. I guess you can only use the sink area at night. 😂
Editing to help with lighting is fine, but full on “airbrushing” is why you can’t trust photos online. No one has a perfect house.
