Baldridge Architects along with Foursquare Builders designed and built this modern creekside home located in a small neighborhood west of Austin, Texas. The homeowner was inspired by one of the architects previous projects and was looking to expand on its theme. The challenge posed on the architect was to work within the confines of an already existing foundation that he and his previous partner had commissioned. The theme for the previous design was Santa Barbara style, not well suite to clean style, modern architecture. After experimenting with several floor layouts, the design team came up with a mid-century modern inspired design scheme.

The home was “built from something akin to a 30% construction drawing set, our client relied on us to collaborate with the builder to take advantage of chance opportunities, ” states the architects.  The completed design reflects a mix of family/party house with a seamless indoor-outdoor living connection. The site is very private, so glass windows are nothing to be concerned about in this design. With deep overhangs protecting from the elements, the glass helps to bring in natural light and nature. The home is a fusion of influences, with the architects and builders both contributing to the end result. The homeowner also had the design team accommodate antique objects and materials from India into the modern architecture.

What We Love: Despite this creekside home having a modern design aesthetic, it radiates warmth through reclaimed teak flooring, walnut cabinetry, and comfortable and cozy furnishings. Walls of glass helps to blur the lines between indoors and out, while expanding interior living spaces. This is the perfect home for entertaining guests, with an open floor plan and low-maintenance materials and finishes.
