Port Streets Residence-Eric Olsen Design-01-1 Kindesign

Port Streets residence is farmhouse style with rustic details designed by Eric Olsen Design, located in the Harbor View Homes area of Newport Beach, California. Designed for a young couple with two kids, this lovely home is nestled in a neighborhood with beautiful back years and streets lined with trees. The designer wanted to build a home that still fit into the neighborhood but was more unique, with a modern farmhouse style, as if it belonged in Napa Valley. The inspiration for the design palette was clean modern lines harmoniously blended with natural rustic materials. The clients wanted a stylish and fresh design approach, yet be family friendly to stand the test of time. Upon entry into this lovely home, you immediately sense an air of openness, with an open hallway and clerestory windows above, plenty of light penetrates the space. The main, open concept living spaces are arranged on the first floor, with the private zones of the bedrooms dispersed on the second level. From the entry you can also see straight through to the dining area out the outdoor living area with a dramatic fireplace. Eye-catching details can be seen throughout the interiors, with rustic reclaimed wood and a sliding barn door that closes off a wing of the upstairs hallway. Adding to the farmhouse feel is the staircase, a focal point in of itself, with the railing comprised of wood and stainless steel cables. The interiors showcase inviting materials and plenty of warmth, everything from reclaimed wood to built-in bookshelves, wood paneling and moldings, all adding texture to the spaces. Built-ins add a personal touch to the home, displaying the owner’s collection of old books and other decorative items.

You will find a neutral color palette with the odd pop of color, creating harmony and a sense of calmness. The furnishings are a mix of the owner’s own pieces from their previous home, some of which are antiques collected from a warehouse scouted in Los Angeles., Big Daddy’s Antiques.
