A dated Victorian home has undergone a complete transformation by Feldman Architecture, situated in Noe Valley, a quaint neighborhood in the central part of San Francisco, California. The goal of this project was to respect the original character of the home, all the while infusing a modern sensibility of space, light, and materiality.

The front exterior facade of this property was mostly preserved; a bright green door with a translucent polycarbonate panel is the only suggestion that this structure is anything other than original. Continue below to see the rest of this spectacular renovation project..,

Above: Once inside, visitors are welcomed by a steel and glass screen that obscures a central staircase. Illuminated by large skylights from above, the open-riser stair brings light into the core of the building.

What We Love: This Victorian home in San Francisco boasts a contemporary overhaul that showcases bright and airy living spaces. 
The house expresses clean, modern lines and a sober color palette, played in shades of gray and white, except for occasional flashes of bright color. Overall, there is a fantastic indoor-outdoor connection for an urban home, full of harmony and luminosity.

At the rear of the main level, walls were removed so the kitchen, breakfast nook, and family room are open to each other. All, in turn, are oriented around a deck, the metal doors to which completely retract so that the deck, family room, kitchen, and eating nook can function as one large room on nice days and evenings.

Throughout this dwelling, a palette of greys, white, steel, and glass, with occasional pops of color, unifies the spaces.

Above: On the top floor are several bedrooms, including a spacious master bedroom with wood-paneled vaulted ceilings plus a master bath with a free-standing tub and glass-enclosed shower.

Above: The lower level includes an office and media room, both of which open directly to the backyard. The office is lined with shelves for the homeower’s extensive book collection.
