Walton Architecture has designed this sleek modern home that features horizontal roof planes, board-formed concrete, and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, located in the Martis Camp neighborhood of Truckee, California. The home is tucked into the upward-sloping 3.3-acre property with a series of roof gardens and fabulous outdoor living spaces for lounging and entertaining. This dwelling boasts panoramic views of the 5th hole on the Tom Fazio golf course along with incredible privacy.
Though not apparent at first glance, the landscaping adjacent to the grand front door is a roof garden, providing the ideal location to showcase a custom metal sculpture while concealing the garage below. The horizontal aluminum screening enables privacy for the guest passage without compromising the interior natural light and view opportunities.

What We Love: This sensational Martis Camp home was designed to take advantage of the surrounding views with its large expanses of glass. This impressive home has several notable features, from the custom dining table with a large granite boulder protruding from it to the sleek metal hood in the kitchen. We love all of the entertaining options in this home, especially outside with the large patios, hot tub, fire pit, and the 26-foot picnic table that provides sweeping views over the 5th fairway.

Above: In the great room, the soaring ceiling reaches 17 feet tall with floor-to-ceiling window walls that define the space. Horizontal window grids and a substantial intermediate soffit detail provide a sense of scale and coziness within this spacious room.
Above: The board-formed concrete fireplace anchors the room at one end and provides a focal piece where people can gather. It is spacious enough to accommodate a large gathering and intimate enough for everyday conversations.
Above: Scale is everything in this room, and the 3,500-pound boulder that emerges from the 12-foot-long walnut dining table fabricated by Blackman Cruz feels at home in proportion and texture in this grand setting.
Above: The kitchen is organized around a central island that is positioned underneath a skylight, bringing natural light directly into the space. Open steel and glass shelving comprises the upper storage and cleanly showcases both functional and decorative kitchenware. Steel is repeated in the custom-fabricated metal hood, and underneath is a 60″ Wolf Gas Range.
Above: This sitting room offers a casual workspace just off the kitchen. This inviting space is perfect for getting some work done while still feeling like you are connected to the rest of the home, all while soaking in the views.
Above: There are a total of six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms in this impressive 8,473-square-foot dwelling.
Above: In the owner’s bedroom, the fireplace is board-formed concrete, which echoes the fireplace in the living room and serves as a grounding element to balance the airy soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. The bed was custom-designed by the interior designer. It warmly combines upholstery and oak paneling in a unique piece that is in perfect harmony with the rest of the space.
Above: This sunken outdoor lounge melds into the surrounding landscape. Defining the space are concrete walls that play double-duty as planters and as a backrest for the custom wrap-around seating. A sculptural board-formed concrete wall serves as the support for the roof above while offering shelter from the elements.
