Marie Flanigan Interiors has reimagined this older house with a refreshing mix of traditional and modern elements, situated in River Oaks, a leafy residential area of Houston, Texas. The home was designed for a young family who requested to have gracious living spaces for themselves and their overnight guests who routinely come to visit.
The remodel includes light-filled and cozy spaces such as the window seat in the living room heaped with plush pillows to the baby nursery decorated with a collection of prints illustrating cities where the couple has previously lived. Plenty of texture was added to create inviting spaces through the use of massive reclaimed wood beams in the ceilings to heavily grained wood furnishings, adding a touch of rusticity.
The property also includes a guest house, which has also been decorated with a neutral color scheme. The space includes its own private living quarters, encompassing a living, dining, and kitchen area. The design is slightly more modern than the main house, but it is in keeping with the same clean-lined, layered aesthetic.

A soothing neutral color palette was incorporated into the design scheme, offering an overall air of lightness. The designer has added layers to the floors, walls, and ceilings with natural, organic textures that create visual interest.
Natural materials of linen and rattan can be seen applied in both spaces, while furnishings gathered for over a decade create a timeless and collected look. Metal accents such as iron can also be seen throughout, adding a graphical impact and industrial air.
