This incredible mountain house was designed as a welcoming retreat by architect Kirk Michels together with Urbaine Atelier in the Yellowstone Club, a private resort community just west of Big Sky, Montana. Created for a couple from Florida, the interior design of this classic lodge-style home is influenced by the owner’s distinct backgrounds.
Inside, you will find stacked stone, rustic wood ceiling beams, and chinked walls. The owners desired a log home yet with a contemporary feel—the furnishings and decor nod to the wife’s Peruvian heritage and the husband’s Scottish roots.

What We Love: This Montana mountain house beautifully mixes rustic elements with elegant and refined details throughout, creating a warm and inviting living environment. We love how the designer has mixed custom and vintage pieces together with some family treasures to create a beloved home to retreat to. The colorful artwork nods to the region with its Western vibe, while the designer light fixtures and furnishings bring a touch of luxury to this rustic dwelling.

To create a balance of rustic and contemporary styles, the design team added contrasting finishes to select interior spaces. This includes plaster on the ceiling in the dining room and main bedroom suite—balancing the rougher wood elements.
