Designed by The Architectural Studio in partnership with Morgan Keefe Builders, this rustic modern mountain house stands within the exclusive Balsam Mountain Preserve, a luxurious private mountain community. Set in the Western North Carolina Mountains, Balsam Mountain Preserve is a gated community that encompasses mountain, golf, and equestrian lifestyles.

Created with great attention to detail, this dwelling boasts unique elements throughout that truly set it apart. Notable construction elements comprise soaring archway ceilings adorned with reclaimed beams, and nearly every room has expansive floor-to-ceiling windows. — just a few examples of the many exceptional design features that grace this remarkable abode.

The home is sited on the property to seamlessly blend in with its natural setting, with the intention of maximizing the views. This sparked the idea to design this home to ramble around the property, where the aesthetics of the home is dictated by a locally sourced material palette.

To help this home blend in with its surroundings, the project team selected reclaimed and locally sourced materials. Several of the main level’s timbers — structural and accent — are reclaimed, while the stonework on the exterior facade and the fireplace surrounds are a blend of stones that are indigenous to the region.

What We Love: This rustic modern mountain house was originally designed as a part-time retreat for the residents who hail from Texas. However, as they visited their beloved 8,000-square-foot, five-bedroom getaway, it became difficult to leave. It was a place where they could escape from the hot Texas sun during the summer, but as time went on, this home became their full-time dream house. From the beautiful surroundings to the unique design details, one can see why it would be hard to leave!

Tell Us: What do you think, would this be your idea of the ultimate dream pad? Let us know in the Comments below!

Note: Check out a couple of other amazing home tours that we have showcased here on One Kindesign from the state of North Carolina: Mountain modern sanctuary boasts sweeping views of Blue Ridge Mountains and  Mountain modern lake house nested in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Reclaimed brick can also be found throughout the interior of this home, lending an industrial feel to the otherwise rustic details, such as the bark and cedar siding, and distressed wood floors.

The owners wanted their home to be open to the views, so the architects integrated three large sets of bi-folding doors into the abode. This enables the great room and a passageway to seamlessly connect to a covered deck with a hot tub.

This is an exceptionally beautiful home! I would never leave – ever! I am in love with all of the stone, brick, woodwork, windows, and floors in this place – and the design is just perfect imho. The only thing I would change would be some of the furniture but that’s just me. Really wish you’d shown more interior photos. I can’t imagine what we were unable to see with over 8,000 sf of living space!

“8,000 s.f. part-time gated community golf retreat for the residents who hail from Texas.”

Architects take note. At some point, sooner than later, this nation’s worsening socioeconomic inequality will cause irreparable social polarization and, likely, structural melt-down.
