This modern Mediterranean house was designed by Richard Krantz Architecture together with Ohara Davies-Gaetano, located on the pristine coastline of Crystal Cove, in Laguna Beach, California. The remarkable Provencal architecture harmoniously blends with the 18th-century French doors discovered by the designer during her European travels.
The homeowner’s primary residence is in Austin, Texas, but after spending many vacations in the area, they knew they wanted a place to call their own. They wanted to enjoy the quintessential indoor-outdoor lifestyle that is afforded by California’s temperate climate.

Above: This intimate courtyard features a reclaimed black and white marble floor and an 18th-century fireplace surround. While its walls permit airflow, they also shelter from the cool breezes off the ocean.
Above: In the family room, the exquisite “Acrylic on Cut Board” artwork over the fireplace is by Nick Gaetano, sourced from the ODG Galerie. The artwork conceals a television.
Above: In the kitchen, the oak cabinets matches the coffered ceiling that boasts Soane pendant lights called “The Double Rise And Fall Ceiling Light – With Metal Drum Shade”. The countertops are Calacatta marble. The pops of blue from the barstools and range and throughout the home make a nod to the nearby ocean.
Above: The focal point of this residence is an elegant staircase, envisioned by the architect and initially carved from a bar of Ivory soap—serving as a prototype for the seamless curve that currently defines the foyer. Drawing inspiration for this staircase, the architect replicated the swirl that tops an ice cream cone.
Above: A private patio can be accessed through either the bedroom or the bathroom, boasting Pacific Ocean views.
