This modern coastal-style house was beautifully designed by Kevin Browne Architecture, located in the seacoast town of Harpswell, Maine. Surrounded by water on three sides, the original 1960s dwelling on this property had reached the end of its life. As the architects began the design process, it was determined that they needed to remove the existing structure and construct a new home that would better capture the views and was built to the performance standards that are expected with modern living.
The entry into the home exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a deep covered porch and gently sloping rooflines that envelope the whole main level to help nestle the abode into its natural setting. Employing similar natural materials utilized on other structures on the property, such as richly stained Douglas fir and cedar, further integrated this new structure into its surroundings.

A departure from the architectural motif seen in neighboring constructions, this dwelling embraced a slightly more modern window design, characterized by generously proportioned windows.
The main level is composed of an open kitchen, living, and dining with a focus on the views. There are also two guest suites, a butlerโs pantry, and a family room.
This new home brought much-needed new life to a gorgeous site on the water. The dwelling is placed over the footprint of the existing home on this incredible point of land that stretches into Quahog Bay, adjacent to the Quahog Bay Conservancy. The new design takes full advantage of the sweeping views around the bay.
What We Love: This coastal Maine house showcases stunning design details throughout โ from the inviting kitchen to the light-filled living room with its cozy fireplace. We are especially loving the large stone patio off the main bedroom, an idyllic outdoor space to enjoy breathtaking views of the bay. Overall, the project team did a fabulous job of maximizing this property to take advantage of the views while providing a comfortable respite for everyday living.

The second level is predominantly the owner’s bedroom suite which includes a comfortable bedroom, bath, and sitting area. All of these areas connect to an outdoor stone patio with an outdoor fireplace.
The architects created a large stone fireplace as an anchor to one corner of the home, where the windows abut the stone of the fireplace on each side.
