See this beyond spectacular coastal modern residence in West Vancouver

coastal-modern-home-exterior

This coastal modern residence was designed by Michel Laflamme Architect together with NelsonDesign, located in Horseshoe Bay, a seaside village in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The homeowners desired a home that embraces and honors the presence of two rock outcrops while nurturing an enduring sense of family unity and togetherness.

The fundamental concept driving the design is the seamless integration with the surrounding site and a keen understanding of its unique conditions. Shadows and light emerge as prominent elements within the composition, harmoniously complementing the existing rock outcrops rather than overshadowing them, as the expressive use of elongated horizontal lines contributes to the overall aesthetic.

Expansive, unimpeded openings, clerestory windows, and a light interior color scheme provide an ideal solution to counter the soft and restrained light that is prevalent in the Pacific Northwest. Similarly, the generous overhangs punctuated with skylights help to shelter the immediate exterior space of the great room, allowing filtered sunlight to permeate through.

The rocky outcroppings serve as the pivotal focal point within the landscape. The house was thoughtfully designed and strategically positioned to deepen this connection, resulting in a truly stunning outcome. The garden was intentionally designed to exude a serene atmosphere, enhancing rather than overshadowing these stunning natural features.

Pretty darn spectacular. I love the 3 very different outdoor seating areas and I don’t think you could improve over the use of the terrain in making the home fit into its environment and be so beautiful.
