Step into this Aspen mountain retreat surrounded by breathtaking views

modern-mountain-home-exterior

This contemporary mountain retreat, created by CCY Architects, is nestled on a sloping site that offers stunning views of the Maroon Creek Valley in Aspen, Colorado. Located in a serene neighborhood, the homeowners, a couple deeply involved in the world of contemporary art, desired a sanctuary where they could immerse themselves in nature and showcase their personal art collection.

The architectural design of this dwelling cleverly balances its position between the neighborhood and the valley. It skillfully embraces the surrounding terrain at the rear, forging a strong connection with nature, while simultaneously ensuring privacy within the residential context at the front.

Towards the neighborhood side, the house is shielded by wood siding and Tuxedo Gray limestone (Capital Masonry) walls that create a sense of privacy. Conversely, along the rear yard where the panoramic views unfold, expansive floor-to-ceiling glass walls foster a harmonious link between the residence and its breathtaking natural surroundings.

Creating a unified and seamless ground level was imperative. Given the sloping nature of the site, the architects devised a bold topographical solution by regrading the property and embedding the dwelling into its site.

This innovative approach not only reduced the street front profile but also ensured a consistent flow from the front to the back. The resulting L-shaped layout not only prioritizes privacy but also grants the homeowners a range of views.

The design of the house prioritizes effortless entertaining, with thoughtful features incorporated throughout. The ground level encompasses shared spaces such as the kitchen, dining room, and living room, all seamlessly connected to the rear yard.

This design allows for a fluid indoor-outdoor living experience, perfect for hosting gatherings and events. Enhancing the overall aesthetic, a striking steel-and-wood staircase near the entry space creates visual connections across different levels while infusing natural light into a lower-level recreation room.

The building’s forms and graceful angular bends harmoniously interconnect, united by a thoughtfully curated selection of robust materials. These materials were meticulously chosen to strike a harmonious equilibrium between the homeowners’ refined preferences and the majestic mountain environment.
