This cozy oasis called The Zen Den was designed by Gerber Berend Design Build nestled up alongside Soda Creek, a magnificent mountain community in Evergreen, Colorado. It’s a space that’s both sparse and inviting, a place where you can settle in and find inner peace.
This small infill lot posed a bit of a challenge, yet the design team knew that by taking the house and land together, they could bring out the best in both. The architects worked with the surrounding natural elements—like the creek—to come up with innovative ways to break down the barriers between indoors and out.
For example, the walkway that connects the yoga studio to the main house has an uninterrupted view directly over the running water, a view you couldn’t get in nature unless you climbed a tree.
When it came to construction, they were able to showcase their carpentry and craftsmanship. Using a photo as inspiration, recycled lumber was used to create a unique, wooden accent wall behind the staircase. Thanks to the project team’s innovation, they produced a design that was beautiful and one-of-a-kind.
The Zen Den is a perfect example of knowing what you love and how you want to live. Despite its limited size, this dwelling lives large and accommodates guests. It’s also as functional as it is beautiful. Stepping into this house, you feel at once totally at home and a world away.
What We Love: The Zen Den provides a warm and welcoming living environment with clean lines, neutral materials, and an overall calming atmosphere. We especially love the bathroom with its spa-like features and ambiance, including a luxurious concrete soaking tub and warm wood cabinets with wood flooring. Overall, the cool mountain home was a relaxing vibe that is perfect for ski vacations and outdoor summer adventures.
