This traditional craftsman mountain home created by ACM Design is nestled amongst the trees on a hilltop in Black Mountain, North Carolina. The interior of this dwelling combines natural wood tones in the flooring, beams, and great room ceiling along with primarily pale gray painted walls.
This provides an idyllic backdrop for the homeowner’s collection of craftsman furnishings and eclectic artwork. The front entry of the dwelling flows into an open-plan great room and dining room with a wood-clad vaulted ceiling and exposed wood trusses. A stacked stone fireplace with shiplap detail over the mantel anchors the room and is visible from the spacious kitchen with a center island.

The exterior of the home blends into its surroundings with a calming palette of shades of gray for the house body and burgundy trim surrounding black window mullions. Metal awnings and eyebrows give a nod to industrial modern style on the front facade of this craftsman mountain home.
Stained wood on the exterior doors and garage doors adds warmth to the deep gray palette. The path leading to the front door is punctuated by stained wood beams and brackets supporting the metal awning over the floor-to-ceiling front windows of the great room.
This dwelling is rich with custom details that enhance the craftsman feel including the millwork appointments, the doors and window trim, and the staircase newel posts.
The design concept for this home was to create a light-filled connector between two masses that would allow a full view through from the front of the home to the woods and mountains beyond and offer a glow in the evening, leading to this home being fondly named “The Bridge House.”

A unique mix of two-tone cabinetry in the kitchen blends distressed gray stained base cabinets with crisp white painted upper cabinets.
The appliance wall was given a streamlined appearance by using only the gray cabinetry along with a cabinet front refrigerator.
A quiet desk nook creates a connection and transition space between the mud/laundry, pantry, and kitchen.
A breezeway connecting the garage to the home with a side entry opens into the mud-laundry room with a dropzone.
