A traditional green-roofed log home has undergone a remodel into a northwest contemporary masterpiece by Trek Architecture together with Edwards Smith Construction, located in Harrison, Idaho. Originally constructed in the early 1990s, this dwelling sits peacefully on the calm and protected Powderhorn Bay.
The homeowners were drawn to the log construction, yet wanted something more modern. They wanted the new design to be bright, open, and have better access to the outdoors. They also wanted a home that could fit their four children, spouses, and grandchildren at the same time. Continue below to see the rest of this spectacular home…
The home was located on a steep hillside leaving the existing wrap-around deck as the only means of outdoor gathering space. It also created a cave-like feeling in the basement. Instead of updating the deck, it was removed in favor of locating an outdoor kitchen and pool adjacent to the side of the home, avoiding blocked views and creating a hub of activity nearer to the kitchen and dining room of the home.
With the deck removed, the basement became a luminous activity center, including a home bar, refrigerated wine wall, and assortment of game tables to provide a place for large groups and gatherings.
In order to accommodate the owner’s children and grandchildren, rooms were re-arranged and imagined into suites, with their own bathrooms and living rooms that could double as sleeping areas for grandchildren. The roof of the garage was also removed during the renovation and reconstructed to host additional sleeping and social space for grandchildren that included eight bunk beds, a kitchen, and a full bathroom.
Among an abundance of memorable features are the outdoor kitchen and pool, interior staircase, great room fireplace, interior kitchen, and wine wall. For added fun, each bedroom suite has its own style.
