This sophisticated coastal home was reimagined for family living by Jenny Martin Design located in the community of Laurel Park, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Rooted in tradition, and designed around the home’s true period architecture, this timeless heritage home authentically references the past.
A contemporary palette and coastal interior pay tribute to a refreshed perspective. Grounding the home with warm natural woods, unlacquered brass finishes, and traditional millwork detailing provides an updated viewpoint on a historic build. Continue the tour below…

Allowing the homeowners to entertain with ease, the built-in bar, spacious dining area, open concept floor plan, and ultimate indoor-outdoor living experience make this home a sophisticated West Coast retreat.
A house where they raised their family, this busy household of five wasn’t ready to part ways with a home filled with so many memories. To make an increasingly small space work for this active family, the goal was to restructure the interior of the home.
Above: Allowing the homeowners to entertain with ease, this open-concept living area showcases clear sight lines to the nature-filled backdrop beyond.
The project team integrated creative storage solutions and strategic programming to reconfigure the footprint which significantly improved both flow and functionality.
The structure of the home was raised to optimize ceiling height in the basement, while custom built-ins, recessed storage, and an open-concept living area made a once unfunctional home, functional.
Redesigned to age in place, this dwelling will continue to frame the memories written within its walls, strengthening the connection in what is now a forever home.
What We Love: This sophisticated coastal home marries the simplicity of seaside living with the timelessness of a traditional build. The renovation has stayed true to the home’s original character while making bold statements through a thoughtful infusion of luxury elements. The transformation has created a timeless, beautiful oasis of calm and sophisticated coastal luxury. Overall, we are loving the aesthetics of this home — warm, inviting, and family-friendly.

Note: Be sure to check out a couple of other fantastic home tours that we have showcased here on One Kindesign in the province of British Columbia: A glass and timber cabin cantilevers off of British Columbia’s serene coast and Beach house sanctuary floats above the forest floor in Tofino, BC.
Above: The kitchen space is both functional and beautiful. The designer wanted to integrate little pops of personality throughout the interiors, allowing the owners curated collection of decor to have a moment of their own.
Above: In the dining area, the linen slipcover chairs are classically coastal, inviting, and warm. They are the perfect addition to any seaside escape. The removable slipcovers can be easily removed, which makes the color choice of “white” not quite so risky.
