Tour this dream beach house with casual elegance on Kiawah Island

casual-beach-house-exterior

This beautiful yet casual beach house was interior designed by Margaret Donaldson Interiors, located on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. The project started out as a colorful and playful vacation retreat that quickly transitioned into the owner’s full-time dwelling, as they loved the laid-back lifestyle that Kiawah Island offered them.

It was important for the couple to have ample space for their visiting family and friends, as they loved to entertain. The open layout of the living and kitchen area provides an idyllic space for living and entertaining, along with the guest rooms, each having its own unique color scheme. Magnificent coastal views can be enjoyed throughout the year either by the fire or from the spacious outdoor living areas.

What We Love: This casual beach house provides its occupants with a wonderful home for entertaining their family and friends. Every detail throughout this home was beautifully curated, from the finishes to the materials and furnishings. We are loving the light and airy color palette to create a relaxed vibe and the cozy guest bedrooms where one may wish to never leave! The outdoor living spaces are also fantastic, with the most tranquil surroundings.

A casual sitting area just inside the entryway is an idyllic spot to soak in the enchanting island scenery, gather or watch TV. The color scheme was kept light and airy to not detract from the views, featuring soft blues, cream, and white. The brushed metal coffee table adds a masculine touch to this space. Next to the sofa, a light-loving fiddle leaf fig plant provides the room with a splash of nature.

One of the requests by the homeowner was this beautiful craft room, a place where she could organize and store her yarn and work on projects. The custom-built cabinetry features a traditional “x” pattern, traditionally designed to hold wine, but is instead used for storing bundles of yarn.

This gorgeous beach house captures views of Kiawah Island’s marsh, so the designer opted to keep the bedrooms and bathrooms neutral. Soft blues and spring greens mimic the serene hues outside, while coral provides a guest bathroom a dash of coastal whimsy.
