A charming update to a classic New England farmhouse in the woods

Cummings Architecture + Interiors along with Windhill Builders have reimagined this classic New England farmhouse that is nestled in the woods of Ipswich, Massachusetts. This charming home had plenty of space for this family of four, yet the layout of some of the living spaces no longer met their lifestyle needs and the interior details were dated.

The homeowner wished to overhaul their home to give it a rustic interior character reminiscent of a farmhouse and compliment the woodsy surroundings. Select interior spaces underwent a complete overhaul in this home, providing the family with an improved and functional layout.

What We Love: This classic New England farmhouse features an interior refresh that provides a family of four with an improved layout, storage, and organization. Custom woodwork and a fresh coat of paint helped to improve the overall aesthetics, along with new light fixtures and furnishings. We are especially loving the overhaul of the main bedroom suite with its cozy reading nook, spa-like bathroom, and large walk-in closet.

Step inside this interior refresh to find the existing peach color scheme changed to a more neutral farmhouse look. The project team selected the Historic Color collection from Benjamin Moore for the walls throughout the interiors.

Adding texture and visual interest to this space is the white-glazed brick tile on the walls. Custom built-in cabinetry was also added to this space. The cabinets are painted in Montpelier AF 55 by Benjamin Moore. The floor is a porcelain tile that is printed to look like a cement tile.

The homeowners also requested an additional garage to store their vintage convertible. This clapboard and cedar-shingled barn take its cues from the New England architectural vernacular.

Large sliding carriage doors, square casement windows, and gooseneck lights add to the aesthetic. The simple roofline is topped with a custom louvered cupola, which looks striking against the backdrop of the bright blue sky.

Love, love, love this home. Sweet and cozy. I would love to know some of the paint colors and brands. Such as, the ceiling shiplap in the reading nook, mater bedroom walls and the master bath vanities. I’m currently revamping my home. Those colors would go perfect!!
