This modern waterfront retreat was designed by Prentiss Balance Wickline Architects sits lightly over the shores of Alaska. Called “Tongass Ledge”, this dwelling provides sweeping views of the inlet waters and balanced at the edge of a rock wall, two volumes at a subtle angle capture the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
For a busy homeowner who splits time between Seattle and Ketchikan, the complete design required a simple form and program, personalized through highly custom interiors. Standing at the edge of the vibrant Tongass Narrows, the Ledge is the perfect lookout for a nature lover.
What We Love: This modern retreat in Alaska provides its inhabitants with a remote setting to enjoy the tranquility of the home’s waterside site. Large window capture views of the peaceful surroundings while flooding the living spaces with natural light. We are loving the overall design of this home, especially the main bedroom with its fabulous views and hanging chair.
Tell Us: What do you think of the overall design and location of this waterfront refuge? Would you feel right at home living here? Let us know why or why not in the Comments below, we love reading your feedback!
Note: Check out a couple of other fascinating waterfront home tours that we have showcased here on One Kindesign: A striking Washington coast refuge inspired by local agricultural traditions and Serene cabin retreat tucked in the forest next to Washington’s Hood Canal.
A cozy built-in window seat provides a wonderful nook for reading right next to the fireplace.
The living, dining and kitchen area offer a spacious open layout that is ideal for entertaining. Floor-to-ceiling glazing allows for the most spectacular sunset views. Furnishings were selected to be relaxed and comfortable in this waterfront retreat.
