Mark Maresca in collaboration with Cortney Bishop Design has designed this beautiful beach house vacation retreat on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Created for a couple with four kids, this getaway is used as a weekend escape and place to spend quality family time. The exterior facade reflects an old Charleston-style home, perfectly suited for large gatherings.
On the interiors, rooms are infused with an invigorating mix of bold patterns and a colorful palette of blues, greens, and yellows. This home is a celebration of youthfulness with playful architectural details. The home sits oceanfront to the Atlantic, where every calming color of the rainbow can be seen when the sun sets over the ocean.

For the design of this home, the architect took inspiration from prerevolutionary Charleston homes. The overall aesthetic is a new-old house that feels one with its surrounding environment. There are several references to Lowcountry vernacular, including a limewashed brick foundation, beaded lap siding, and functional shutters — solid on the main level and louvered on the upper levels to allow fresh ocean breezes to circulate.
