Modern Balinese style house offers a peaceful sanctuary in Georgia

Joel Kelly Design has designed this modern Balinese style house located in the heart of Brookhaven, a city in the northeastern suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. The owners requested a resort-style atmosphere reminiscent of the South Pacific. A courtyard-style house completely frames the views once inside the home and creates an inward-looking house focused on a spectacular courtyard pool.

The exterior facade is characterized by roof overhangs, a wood-shake roof, and cedar-shake siding, lending a crisp yet textured appearance. The material palette reinforces the modern-island vibe that the homeowners were looking for, including the use of stacked stone that has a ‘volcanic’ connection due to color and layering.

Above: This private courtyard creates the feeling of an escape away from city life. With a ground-level surface, the pool was left with a dark finish to give the appearance of a mirror on the ground.

Above: The homeowners are doctors who wanted their dream home to reflect a modern Balinese style, a place where they could unwind after long workdays. The material palette encompasses wood, glass, and stone. Low-pitched eaves on the roof and a relaxing water element complete the resort-inspired aesthetic.
