Designs Northwest Architects in collaboration with Impel Construction created this beautiful modern-rustic home nestled in a meadow in the foothills of the North Cascades in Mazama, Washington. A beautiful blend of steel, glass, and concrete, this home was designed according to the principles of the Firewise USA Program. This program has devised to empower neighbors to work together to reduce their risk of a wildfire by preparing and protecting their homes against a wildfire threat.
Some of the Firewise principles that were integrated into this design include:
- Fire-rated metal roofing
- Non-combustible metal siding
- Non-combustible steel support beams
- Double pane tempered glass to reduce the risk of fracture of collapse due to fire
- Landscaping around the house is kept clear of combustible vegetation and large trees
- Landscape sprinklers enables the area around the house to be kept moist during any kind of fire danger
- Slab on grade construction prevents fire from moving through a crawl space
- Elevated deck constructed from non-combustible materials
A family of five with two dogs inhabits this incredibly designed abode. Encompassing 2,400 square feet of living space, this dwelling boasts three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms with a matching guest house and a garage. An idyllic getaway for friends and family!
What We Love: This beautifully designed modern-rustic home offers its inhabitants secure measures to help be more prepared for wildfires. A combination of materials creates an attractive design on both the exterior facade and the interior living spaces. Surrounded by natural beauty, expansive walls of glass help to capture the views while flooding the interiors with natural light. Overall we think this is a wonderfully designed home, kudos to the project team!
