Modern-rustic retreat inspired by breathtaking Whitefish Lake surroundings

This modern-rustic retreat known as Rest Haven Camp is designed by Pearson Design Group, nestled along the shores of Whitefish Lake in Montana. A getaway for a couple from Dallas, Texas, the design of this home is inspired by the fishing camp that used to reside at this location. A screened in living room takes full advantage of enjoying the natural creek that flows beside the house into the lake. In the living room, an open fireplace design acts as a focal point in the home, similar to the fire pit that was once at the camp, drawing family and friends together.

The homeowners compromised on the location of this home, he loves mountains, she loves water. Overall, the design reflects a relaxed dwelling with clean lines, standing out from the older, more traditional homes in the area. The exterior is clad with cedar lap siding with traditional gabled forms, a board-formed concrete foundation and a galvalume metal roof.

What We Love: The design of this modern-rustic retreat offers an authentic and inviting feel that radiates throughout. It has a relaxed and campy feel, rough-luxe meets modern mountain. The surrounding lakefront environment offers a feeling of tranquility, while providing the home’s inhabitants with plenty of summertime activities to enjoy. We are especially loving the idea of the glass bridge that connects yet separates the master suite from the main living spaces. Overall a delightful home!

Above: A breezeway leads into the entry of this modern-rustic retreat, which features a glass bridge that connects two volumes — the living areas with the master bedroom wing. Additionally, stairs conveniently leads from the catwalk directly to the lake, where one can bypass the interior.

Above: In the living room, the sofas by Thom Filicia for Vanguard Furniture. A dramatic three-sided fireplace is the focal point, supported by a floor-to-ceiling stone clad wall. This wall helps to visually separate the living and dining areas. On the floor, wide-plank white oak with an aged patina.

Above: In the kitchen, two quartzite waterfall islands allows one space for prep and the other for seated guests. A wall of laminated wood cabinetry and appliances is framed by a hand-forged steel border, contrasting with the crisp white shiplap walls. The walls were hand-painted to make the brush strokes visible.

Above: Located just off the kitchen, a rustic covered porch provides a relaxing and intimate environment. From this space, one can listen to the rushing of the spring while being sheltered from the elements. The overall feeling is campy and cozy yet very open.
