Locati Architects designed this rustic contemporary waterside retreat that offers lakeside living and entertaining in style, nestled on Whitefish Lake in Montana. Encompassing 7,000 square feet of sumptuous living space, the construction of the exterior facade is a mix of conventional stick-frame and structural time frame. The posts, beams and trusses on the outside of this waterside retreat are a part of the structural support.
There is plenty of timber on the interior that is non-structural, applied just for aesthetics, but appears as structural. The living and dining room area is the perfect example of this, with its soaring cathedral ceilings and exposed timber trusses. The appearance feels like a lodge, yet has a comfortable scale that is very warm and welcoming. The way that the trusses carried through the spaces helped to determine the placement of windows, light fixtures and even the interior decor scheme. Reclaimed fir and stone was used throughout the residence, giving it an overall edgy style with a rustic feel.
What We Love: This stunning rustic contemporary retreat offers comfortable and relaxed interiors that are perfect for a lakeside retreat. Loving the use of wood throughout to add warmth to the spacious interiors, helping to make it feel cozy and and inviting. The exterior living spaces have so much to offer with a cool fire pit and lounging spaces to enjoy al fresco dining and lakeside living…

It makes you feel like you are in a tree fort, where the landscape architects added to this sensation by planting more birch and aspen in visual view of this space.
