Shingle-styled coastal retreat gets a dreamy makeover in New York

transitional-exterior

This shingle-styled home has been completely renovated by Nicholas A. Vero Architects in collaboration with Willey Design, located in Quogue, a seaside village in Long Island, New York. What began as a Spanish Colonial home was transformed into a classic shingle-style residence for a large family who enjoys frequent entertaining. The original home featured an unsightly Mediterranean facade, with stucco walls and a bright terra-cotta roof. The home was restored to blend with the homes in the area, built by Hobbs Inc.

The design team transformed this 8,000 square foot, 9-bedroom, 11-bathroom home into a breezy, casual, and sophisticated summer home by cultivating a pale palette. The color scheme reflects dreamy grays, sky blues, and sandy neutrals, which highlights sea, sky, and beach, the ideal colors of summer.

Custom fabricated bookcases, fireplace mantels, and a spacious new kitchen in cerused oak provides an elegant backdrop for the decor, which consists of vintage furnishings with sleek, custom-designed upholstery. All of the light fixtures are dramatic punctuations that bring a sculptural component, both decorative and functional.

A double-height living room was created by removing the ceiling to the second level, which helped to create a vastly proportional entertainment area. The rear patio and pool surround were expanded and upgraded.  New exterior lounging and dining areas are tempting invitations to continue the entertaining throughout sunset and well into the evening. The intention of this redesign was to make this home feel as if it’s always been this way.
