Designed by VanBrouck & Associates, this award-winning Cape-Cod-inspired lake house features beautiful shingle-style detailing, located on Strawberry Lake, Michigan. Created for casual living and easy entertaining, interior spaces were designed to maximize views over the breathtaking lake.
Since the lake is long and narrow, with existing houses nestled closely on either side, the main design objective was to build the home with direct views to the lake. This also helped to create privacy from the neighboring properties. Large windows and French doors perfectly frames views of the lake, while also allowing natural light to penetrate into these interior spaces.
Utility rooms and secondary spaces were arranged to block views of the neighboring houses. An open floor plan helps to make the living areas feel more expansive, and the primary interior rooms flow together. The interiors are connected with the outdoor living areas, offering views towards the lake.
Playful shingle-style elements were incorporated into the design, which includes a unique 35-foot tower room, capturing panoramic views of the lake. This has created an eye-catching bell-tower architectural element on the exterior. The casual morning dining room is set into an alcove adjacent to the kitchen, creating a second bell tower architectural element.

What We Love: This Cape-Cod-inspired lake house is not too big, but is architecturally interesting and quite charming—both indoors and out. All of the details makes this home so warm and inviting, from the traditional styling to the expansive windows framing breathtaking lakefront views. What a tranquil and relaxing place to call home!
