A Lake Tahoe mountain home getaway surrounded by pine forest

rustic mountain home exterior

Interior designer Matthew O’Dorisio was responsible for the design of this year-round mountain home getaway for a young family, located in Martis Camp, a private community near Lake Tahoe, California. Surrounded by a pine forest, this home was designed to avoid log cabin stereotypes. Instead, the designer opted to restrain rustic elements, where reclaimed wood ceilings and beams were contrasted with crisp white walls.

Since this home was designed for a family with three young children and to entertain their extended family and friends, the designer selected furnishings that were durable. All-weather fabrics such as linen were used to create a casual yet sophisticated living environment.

What We Love: This gorgeous mountain home getaway offers a family a spacious yet inviting retreat to enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. A beautiful mix of rustic wood with more contemporary furnishings helps to keep this home from being a log-cabin stereotype. Expansive windows helps to create an indoor-outdoor connection throughout, inviting the beautiful pine forest into this incredible home.

The backsplash tile is from Waterworks. The industrial-style Shaw pendant lights illuminating the island have a zinc finish, sourced from Urban Electric Co. The counter stools are comprised of leather seats with exposed brackets.
