Casual elegance defines this bungalow style home in California

This bungalow style home underwent a complete transformation by CKA Architects in collaboration with Cecy J Interiors, located in Los Altos, California. Walls were torn down and the interior layout was completely re-arranged to improve the flow. To increase natural light to the spaces, skylights were integrated into the ceiling. The flooring is comprised of reclaimed wood planks in a light gray stain in some areas of the home, while other spaces featured a hexagonal terra cotta tiling, injecting the home with warmth.

Patterns were added for visual interest, such as the backsplash in the kitchen and the walls in the powder room. The finished result is a stunning design aesthetic that plays with various textures and patterns to create an inviting, casual atmosphere for a very active family of five to enjoy for years to come.

What We Love: The designer coined this bungalow style home as “barefoot casual”, an inspiring renovation project with plenty of fabulous ideas. Less than 3,000 square feet, there is a lot of functionality and good use of space. The interior layout is very smooth and the new design feels very bright and airy with lots of pattern and texture.

Above: The kitchen feels very cozy even though it has been designed with a minimal styling. Carrara marble countertops are featured on the perimeter cabinets and the center island. The island cabinetry has been custom designed out of salvaged wood. The backsplash features an ornate tile that is very stylish, adding pattern and a hint of color to this mostly white kitchen.
