Striking dwelling inspired by the missions in southern Arizona

Southwestern Style House-The Ranch Mine-01-1 Kindesign

The design of this home was inspired by the forms of the missions in southern Arizona, commissioned by award-winning architects The Ranch Mine. Located in Phoenix, Arizona, this 2,505 square foot contemporary house is set on an irregularly shaped property along the canal. For privacy, the house was designed in a u-shaped plan where interior living spaces open into shaded courtyards. This also helps to offer the home’s inhabitants additional living areas to enjoy throughout the day.

Dividing the two wings of the house—the living area and private bedroom spaces—is a central courtyard. This area is anchored by a rusted steel clad fireplace, creating a dramatic focal point to this outdoor living space. On the interior, the kitchen features a rusted steel clad hood that culminates at the ceiling. This leads the eye upwards, to the striking vaulted tongue and groove hemlock ceiling. Aluminum clad, wood doors and exposed aggregated concrete floors adds texture and warmth to the interior of this striking dwelling.

What We Love: This brand new house design in Arizona features a simple design on the exterior that opens to an incredible interior layout. With vaulted ceilings and light-filled living spaces, we love this home’s central courtyard space. This enables the homeowners privacy while providing additional living space to relax and entertain. The outdoor fireplace has a fantastic appeal, we would be enjoying this space all winter long… when the Arizona desert gets a little chilly at night!
