This striking contemporary mountain dwelling was designed by Charles Cunniffe Architects, set atop a promontory on Red Mountain, in Aspen, Colorado. The mountainside home features expansive windows framing spectacular views of Aspen Mountain. Encompassing 10,000 square feet of living space, this home offers a warm yet contemporary material palette to create a nurturing home for the family.
The home was designed for the architect and his family, using his experience from past commissions to inspire the overall aesthetic. Windows throughout the home were carefully placed to illuminate the interior spaces with natural light. An open floor plan creates a harmonious flow, while lift and slide doors opens completely to an outdoor waterfall and expansive decks. This provides amble space for entertaining.

The interior living spaces are mainly spread out over two levels, with the living areas and master suite on the first floor, while the childrenโs rooms, a family room and services are located downstairs. The guest suite is housed on the second level, while a home office is perched in the third level tower. “The plan of the linear house is like a dumbell โ the center is an open living area, and smaller spaces are on the ends; this applies to both the first and lower level,” states the architects.
What We Love: This visually striking mountain dwelling offers brilliant contemporary design inspiration with added warmth through its material palette. The use of wood and stone invites a comforting atmosphere to the living spaces, while designer furnishings injects a sleek aesthetic to the overall design… Readers, please share in the comments below your overall thoughts on the design of this home.
