Impressive modern-rustic home showcases views of the Rocky Mountains

This incredibly breathtaking modern-rustic home is the work of Highline Partners, located just outside of Bozeman, a city in southern Montana. The dwelling is nestled at the base of the Bridger Mountains, in the Ross Peak Ranch community. This area is known for year-round outdoor activities, which include skiing, fishing, and hiking.

The project was designed with the goal of bringing the outdoors inside via a dramatic wall of window openings. Through this indoor-outdoor connection, the interiors are flooded with natural light. Additionally, the scope of this project entailed the inclusion of cutting-edge materials, high-tech windows and door systems, and original design details.

Above: The impressive roof support system features 50-foot-long, 8-by-8-inch, 100-year-old white oak beams, reclaimed from an Ohio barn. The reclaimed wood was sourced by Montana Reclaimed Lumber. The lines are blurred between indoors and out thanks to an expansive wall of glass: two 20-foot-wide, three-paneled doors that retract into that wall to seamlessly meld the living room and patio. A deep overhang protects the interiors from the summer sun yet allows for solar heat gain during the winter months.

Above: A secondary shed-roof garage houses the owner’s toys, including a 1977 Ford Highboy, a 1966 Ford Bronco (the husband’s first car bought in high school), a BMW motorcycle, ATV and a drift boat. This space also serves as a retreat, including a bathroom, wet bar, humidor and gladiator cabinet to store hunting and fishing gear. The 1940s pin-up girl featured on the exterior, along with its sister pin-up in the main house, was repurposed from a building in Los Angeles scheduled for demolition.
