This Victorian home was renovated by Robson Rak Architects in collaboration with interior design studio Made By Cohen, located in Melbourne, Australia. The design team transformed the dark interiors of this home—which encompasses 1,614 square feet (150 square meters), into an open, light-filled living space. The new layout showcases elegance and sophistication, with a spacious, open plan kitchen/living area with a connecting courtyard.
An expansive wall of glass visually connects the kitchen and living area with the outdoor courtyard, while clerestory windows further illuminate this spacious living area. Clean lines and a simple palette of finishes creates harmony throughout the interiors. These material elements all have a raw quality about them, enabling them to gracefully age and acquire their own patina over time.
With simplicity, each design detail was carefully considered and executed to perfection. Subtle details creates a heightened awareness of flow and balance within the space.
Accolades: This Melbourne, Australia home was shortlisted for the Interior Design, Houses, and IDEA Awards, 2013.
What We Love: This stunning Victorian home transformation features luminous interior living spaces and a wonderful open layout. The indoor-outdoor connection in the great room helps to visually expand the interiors, while inviting nature inside. The outdoor courtyard was a brilliant idea for an urban living environment, adding privacy and a sense of intimacy. Overall a very inspiring project… Readers, what are your thoughts, are there any notable design details that caught your attention? Let us know in the comments!
