Dreamy lakeside home in Alabama with picturesque views

contemporary-lake-house-exterior

This stunning two-story lakeside home offers the ultimate in indoor-outdoor living, designed by Pfeffer Torode Architecture on the picturesque setting of Lake Martin, Alabama. The design was focused on creating a place where people lose track of time, a haven of relaxation. Since some residents of this lakeside community live here year-round, the design team opted to stay away from cottage-style trends.

Instead you will find more rustic elements infused into the interiors: wood beams and a stone fireplace mixed with elegant furnishings, finishes and fixtures. Durable materials such as nubby linens, performance velvets, sisal and rag rugs keeps this home feeling casual and comfortable. King’s House Oriental Rugs are featured throughout the home, have a look at this source guide for the complete details.

The open layout was designed to offer plenty of living space to entertain large groups during the holidays; yet still feel intimate year-round with it’s distinct spaces: dining, reading, lounging and card-playing. When designing this lake house, it was all about maximizing the views. This space only has one overhead light fixture and it is suspended in front of the street side view. The artisan-crafted fixture, whose design was inspired by gas lanterns, was sourced from Low Country Originals.

Interesting Fact: This lakeside home was awarded Country Living Magazine’s 2017 lake house of the year!

The inspiration for this lake house’s overall design aesthetic is the heavily wooded landscape surrounding the property. Interior finishes nod to the outdoors, including the tongue-and-groove pine-clad walls, the cedar ceiling and area rugs.

What We Love: This beautiful lakeside home offers a welcoming warmth thanks to material elements of wood used both indoors and out. There is a nice open flow of spaces that is perfect for entertaining. The indoor-outdoor connection has been well devised, from layout to the use of materials and finishes. The overall aesthetic is comfortable and relaxing, with a hint of elegance… a place to call home!

The jute window treatments throughout the interiors were sourced from Smith & Noble (Belize Sand downstairs; Fiji in Mist upstairs). They offer privacy and texture while still allowing natural light through. Highlighting the windows are floral linen panels (“Wild Thing” in the cobalt/copper colorway by Carleton V) adding a feminine touch.

It is frustrating when the layout of the floor plan contradicts the room photos.
