This contemporary farmhouse style home was designed by Rockefeller Partners Architects, located on 83-acres of rolling green hills in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Consisting of 7,200 square feet of living space, the vision for a Southern California-based family was a rustic retreat surrounded by forested hills. The original home on the property was aย small, white farmhouse with tall grasses surrounding it. The homeowners found this idyllic, wishing for a grander, more modernized version in its place.
The architects mission was to create a home whose exterior aesthetic followed the same principles of a traditional farmhouse vernacular. This included a wrap-around porch, small regularly spaced windows, pitched rooflines and stone chimneys. The porch offers a relaxing place to enjoy the mesmerizing views surrounding the home. This includes a mature growth forest of Douglas fir trees, rugged mountains and beyond to an expansive sky.

The home features an L-shaped design, laid out into two separate wings that are united by a transparent glass walkway. There is a combination of formal and informal living spaces, offering the family a haven to live, work and play. The main wing envelopes everyday live/work/sleep spaces, including an open plan kitchen and dining area, family room, library, study, gym, four bedrooms, four bathrooms and two half bathrooms.
The other wing encompasses a three-car garage, laundry room and manager’s office on the lower level. On the upper level you will find guest living quarters with two bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.
Above: Outdoors you will find a large swimmingย pool, sauna, spa, fireside seating, barbecue and a separate private studio.
Above:ย Skylights have been punctuated strategically into the structure, taking full advantage of natural light, especially during the dreary winter months of the Pacific Northwest.
What We Love: This farmhouse style weekend retreat features open and airy living spaces accented by tall windows to frame the surrounding views. A cleverly devised floorplan allows ample space for the family to enjoy intimate living areas, while offering a separate area for overnight guests. Furnishings are an eye-catching mix of new and old, while materials selections adds rustic warmth to this modernized farmhouse… Readers, what are your overall thoughts on the design of this home, is there anything you would do differently?

Above:ย Warm wood tones of walnut, oxidized maple and cedar can be found throughout this farmhouse, applied to the ceilings, floors, doors and millwork. The use of wood infuses the interiors with a rustic warmth.
